Indelible traces of mechanized illegal mining in traditional cuisine: the case of Managrú, Cantón de San Pablo, Chocó, Colombia

Abstract

Managrú, municipal seat of the Cantón de San Pablo municipality, Chocó department, Colombia, an Afro-descendant community, large-scale mechanized illegal mining was introduced by Brazilians and Peruvians in the mid- two thousand to the year 2000 and 2018; said mining exploitation affected traditional production systems and affected food security; I practically put an end to artisanal mining. In addition to generating negative impacts on health due to mercury, damage to flora and fauna, contamination of water sources by mercury and disturbance of the natural channel, among others.
