Moving from theory to practical application in order to derive the benefits of new knowledge is the challenge in most sciences. In the current scenario of global change, this challenge touches those fields apparently distant from economic activity and markets, in environmental and natural resources matters. In consideration of the above, the Pacific Environmental Research Institute seeks, in alliance with the social forces of the region, to bet on a process that, from the collective construction of its strategic research plan, makes sufficient contributions to make the collective social benefits derived from research a reality, seeking among all, a way out towards the practical application of viable mechanisms to promote the conservation and adequate valuation of the services provided by ecosystems.
